Barbecue Recipes: Choosing Your Barbecue

January 15, 2009 by powfada · Leave a Comment

Barbecuing food gives it a delicious smoky taste, but it is not the charcoal that flavors the food. When the food cooks, melted fat is released and drips onto the heat source. This then creates smoke, which permeates the food.

If you marinate the food first in herbs, or in spice and oil combinations, they will contribute to the taste, as will aromatic wood chips ar herbs strewn over the charcoals or used in smoking box in a gas barbecue. So whether you chose a charcoal or gas barbecue, you will still achieve fantastic flavours.

The main thing to consider when chosing your barbecue is how often you intend to use it. If you enjoy regular family meals alfresco or party barbecues in the backyard, a larger one might be best for you. If, however, you like to act spontaneously and light up a barbecue on the beach or in the country side, you will need something portable– And this small kind of barbecue would also be perfect if you plan to use the barbecue at home only occassionally.

Remember that the larger barbecues will need to be stored somewhere dry when not in use, so you will most likely need a shed or corner of the garage to tuck them away into.
